FAQ

1. How much do monuments cost?

It is very difficult to say what an average price would be because it depends on quality, size, color and style. When we have more information about what you have in mind, we can better give you a price. Stop by and we can discuss what type of memorial you’re looking for and then determine the cost.

2. What is included in the price?

Our prices are all inclusive. The final price includes the headstone, lettering and design, foundation and installation. Memorials are tax-exempt.

3. Are there advantages to purchasing a headstone in advance?

By purchasing a headstone in advance, you can be certain that you will have exactly what you want at today's prices. You will spare your family of the responsibility of having to choose for you and make difficult decisions during an emotional time. You can count on our professional sales consultants to help you make the right choice.

4. How soon after we order a headstone will it be finished and installed?

All memorials made in the U.S. will be installed in the cemetery within 90 days of your order. Because imported granite has to be shipped, it may take longer.

5. Can I design my own monument?

Our craftsman have the know-how to personalize headstones in many ways. Today, there are hundreds of design options for you to choose from in personalizing a monument. We are experienced in every aspect of customization.

6. What are the pitfalls of buying a monument online?

With so many headstone dealers on the internet, it's hard to know who they are, how long they've been in business or whether they are reputable. There's no reliable information about companies that sell headstones online.

Be aware that if you purchase a monument online, you will then have to make all arrangements (which we always handle for our customers) including scheduling delivery and unloading it from the freight truck; making sure a footer is "in place"; installing the memorial and then getting the supplies used to properly seal it for protection. In addition, most cemeteries have their own regulations about the size and type of monuments that they allow. Because we work with all local cemeteries, we are familiar with their requirements.

We have a local reputation to uphold and will work with you to ensure you receive the highest value and quality workmanship. All of our products come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee and if your headstone should begin to shift or lean, we’ll fix it at no cost to you or your family.

7. If I choose cremation, what are my options?

Cremation does not eliminate your options for memorialization. Family members can still have a meaningful and concrete way to remember a loved one. We offer a wide range of memorialization options, whether for placement in a traditional cemetery or at another location. We will be happy to explain your options. Check out some of our cremation memorials.

8. Who handles all of the arrangements?

We will handle everything. We make all of the arrangements so that everything is as easy and smooth running as possible for you and your family during an emotional time.

9. Are there any restrictions on what type of monument I can use?

Many cemeteries do have restrictions, particularly regarding size, and some have other restrictions. Our knowledgeable manager will assist you with your cemetery's regulations.

10. Are there any payment options?

We offer three ways of paying. Typically, we ask for half down, and the remaining balance is due upon your approval of the inscription/design. We also offer a payment plan so that when the balance is paid in full (usually within a year of purchase), we will install your headstone. The third option is to pay for your memorial in full at the time of purchase.

11. For how long do you guarantee a monument?

Our guarantee is forever. This covers all of our work - design, price, foundation, installation and your complete satisfaction. We are proud of our products and our work. Rock of Ages also provides a full, in-perpetuity guarantee on their granite. If you choose a Rock of Ages monument from us, your entire memorial package will be guaranteed forever.

12. Who installs the concrete foundations?

This varies from one cemetery to another. Some cemeteries mandate that their employees must install the foundations. If not, our experienced installers will do an excellent job with the utmost respect and care. And remember, our foundations are guaranteed forever.

13. Are there different types of granite?

Yes, there are different kinds and colors of granite. For instance, gray granite can vary a great deal between the lowest grade and the highest (full perpetual warranty) grade. Among the oldest rock on earth, all granite has strength, durability and beauty, yet, like other natural material such as wood, each has different characteristics. Check out our granite colors.

14. Before you install a monument, must you wait for the earth to settle?

No, because typically the ground where the foundation is set is usually undisturbed. In cases where it has been disturbed, we use methods that will prevent your foundation from going any more than 3/16" out of level.

15. Why are some very old monuments difficult to read?

Most very old monuments are made of marble, lower quality granite or are simply dirty. Memorials can be cleaned with dish washing liquid and a brush. If that doesn't work, call us about our professional cleaning services. The old ways of lettering monuments didn't provide contrast between the inscription and the background, making them hard to read.

16. Are you able to inscribe the final date or other information on a monument that was purchased from another dealer?

Yes, even if the monument wasn't bought from us, we can match the existing lettering and inscribe the final information.
